Why are there more women than men in Russia?
According to the latest Russian federal state statistics data, there are now about 10 million more women than men in Russia. And this is only official statistics, because in reality this figure is even higher. What is the disproportionate division of the population by gender?
It should be noted at once that in our country even a little more boys are born than girls, and the sex ratio is maintained in roughly equal proportions until the age of 32. More than half of the male population of the USSR was lost during World War II, and this loss has never been fully compensated. As to the modern reasons why the female population in the country prevails over the male population, the following can be identified as the main ones:
1. A higher male mortality rate. Women's mortality peaks only after the age of 50, whereas for men this figure is half as high. This is due to the love of extreme entertainment, bad habits (drug addiction, alcoholism, smoking), unhealthy lifestyle.
2. A large number of deaths due to accidents, accidents, fights, offenses. In the case of the latter, both offenders and law enforcement officers die. It may be assumed that this is due to impulsiveness and propensity for risk which is characteristic of the representatives of the stronger half of mankind. Whereas women have a more developed instinct of self-preservation and caution. Ladies are also more attentive to their own health and the need to take care of their children.
3. A high rate of deaths due to cardiovascular disease. There is an opinion that there are more women because the reason lies in the hormones. Women are protected to some extent from heart attacks and strokes by estrogen.
4. Men's employment in high-risk activities. This is work in the same law enforcement agencies, mines, on harmful production, service in the army, etc.
There is also a popular opinion (not scientifically proven) according to which a man's life is shortened by an active sex life. Because of which the body loses energy and substances necessary for health. As for general statistics, now, according to the UN, there are about 75 million more men in the world. It is important to understand that the data should be considered for each individual state. There are more men in countries such as Norway, Iceland, Finland, Switzerland, Canada, Sweden, Italy, China, India, Iran, Qatar, Egypt and a number of others. The reasons for the demographic situation for each country should be considered individually.
A "census" count taken in 1897 showed that 32.1 million were men (49% of the total) and 33.8 million were women (51% of the total). The gap has only widened since then. Between 1959 and 1971, Russia had 45% men and 55% women, and World War II further exacerbated the country's gender gap, as more than 25 million Russian soldiers were killed in action.
